Set up in 1957, Birmingham Optical Group supplies instruments and machines to the ophthalmic profession in the UK and Ireland. The group works in conjunction with partners, including Nidek and Oculus, and employs 80 people.
The Challenge
Getting spare parts delivered quickly and cost effectively is of critical importance to Birmingham Optical Group, which employs 20 engineers across the UK and Ireland. The company also needed a secure service that would enable it to keep track of deliveries.
The Solution
DX recommended its Business Direct ParcelXchange Service, which provides a secure and conveniently located locker for each engineer. Spare parts are placed in the lockers each day so that engineers can collect them on their way to work at 8am. The fully intelligent ParcelXchange system has a scanner which records the time that parts were delivered to the locker and when the engineer collected them. At the end of the day, the scanner records the parts, such as unwanted or repair items, that have been left in the box by the engineer to be returned to Birmingham Optical Group.
The secure ParcelXchange boxes are located within 15 minutes of the individual engineers’ homes in locations such as supermarkets and petrol stations.
